Bill Weld: a political obit

If the good people of New York want a brilliant description of what they missed by passing over Bill Weld in his quest to badly govern two states in the course of his haphazard career, they should head over to the Chimes at Midnight and check out what Humble Elias has to say on the subject. It's all so good that I had trouble picking out a favorite line, but settled on this one:
To me, he created the viceregal governing style and brought an insolence to the corner office that still conditions the governorship some sixteen years later.
Bill Weld left me with the impression that he believes working hard shows bad form. Massachusetts is still trying to cast off his shadow. Screw charisma. The person who will get my vote for governor will be one who demonstrates that he wants to actually govern Massachusetts, and that he doesn't mind rolling up his sleeves and getting a little mussed while doing so.
