Diane has been keeping us all up to date on the still evolving election conspiracy/Diebold weirdness. My own take is this is being hyped somewhat and that could either lead to some really hard evidence that the election was seriously undermined or that it wasn't. However, while we wait to see how this plays out, I thought I'd point you all ahead a little, to the upcoming power shift at the DNC and this little piece out of The Des Moines - oh how we miss the gold old days - Register on the Vilsack for DNC chair boomlet.
The person chosen to head the DNC for the next four years could play a pivotal role in lifting our party out of its current slump. As far as I can tell, the only thing people seem not to like about Vilsack is that he is "boring." I don't think that should disqualify him from the chairmanship and in fact he may be able to bring a little heartland appeal (a region Democrats would do well to stress) back to the party.
Further, and I know I'm going out on a limb here, if there is one thing I have continued to second guess over the last month, it's Kerry's decision to pick Edwards for VP. I know, I know, he has tremendous appeal, and his selection helped the ticket in numerous ways. But a cold hard look at the electoral map makes it pretty clear that the decision to NOT pick Vilsack or Gephardt was a risk that may not have been worth taking when the upper Midwest was our only hope.
