Cavalcade of Platitudes

Overriding impression so far of the GOP parade o'glory: have to paraphrase Jon Stewart and say, I don't think they're stupid; I think they think we are stupid.

Crystallizing that impression was a morning caller to C-Span who said, "I wish George Bush would be more moderate. I know they've set up the convention to appeal to voters like me, and it does."

D'oh.

Laura Bush on George:
"He'll always tell you what he really thinks."
Laura Bush:
"You can count on him, especially in a crisis."

Michael Moore : As the attack took place, Mr. Bush was on his way to an elementary school in Florida. When informed of the first plane hitting the world trade center, where terrorists had struck just eight years prior, Mr. Bush decided to go ahead with his photo opportunity.
    [Bush enters the classroom]
Michael Moore : When the second plane hit the tower, his chief of staff entered the classroom and told Mr. Bush the nation is under attack.
[Bush picks up a children's book]
Michael Moore : Not knowing what to do, with no one telling him what to do, and with no secret service rushing in to take him to safety, Mr. Bush just sat there, and continued to read "My Pet Goat" with the children.
[the time is measured on a clock in the corner of the screen]
Michael Moore : Nearly seven minutes passed with nobody doing anything.
Laura Bush:
"He has boundless energy and enthusiasm for his job."

Prior to Sept. 11, 2001, The Manchester Guardian calculated that Mr. Bush, in his first seven months of office spent 42 percent of his time on holiday, "a whopping 54 days at his Texas ranch, 38 days at the presidential retreat at Camp David and four more at his parents' place in Kennebunkport, Maine."
Laura Bush:
"He treats every person he meets with dignity and respect..."

There's Adam Clymer, major league asshole from the New York Times."
Laura Bush is either a liar or she's delusional.

How is this convention playing in purple America? Are people stirred by such rhetoric or are they insulted by it?
