Terror war comments roundup

The cognitive dissonance of all this is something the Republicans often criticize the Democrats for. If this is another example of the Bush's campaign's organized rapid response capabilities pigs can fly.

That was then:

  • "One of the interesting things people ask me, now that we're asking questions, is, can you ever win the war on terror? Of course, you can."
    ---George W. Bush
    White House Press Conference
    April 13th, 2004

  • "We have a clear vision on how to win the war on terror and bring peace to the world."
    -- George W. Bush
    July 30th 2004.

  • This is now:

  • "I don’t think you can win it (i.e., the war on terror). But I think you can create conditions so that the — those who use terror as a tool are — less acceptable in parts of the world."
    -- George W. Bush, August 28th, 2004

  • And here’s how Bush’s handlers explain it:

  • Cheney: “[The President] never certainly intended to convey the notion we can't win the war on terror&we can and we will."
[Sean Hannity show, August 31, 2004]

  • Rove: "This is a different kind of war against a different kind of enemy... We may not know the moment we won it."
[Rove to ABC’s Peter Jennings, August 31, 2004]

  • McClellan: "This is an unconventional war with an unconventional enemy…I don't think there'll be a formal surrender or a treaty signed. We will prevail in the war on terrorism."
[White House press briefing, August 31, 2004]

  • And then Bush today:

  • We meet today in a time of war for our country, a war we did not start yet one that we will win."

  • -- George W. Bush, August 31st, 2004
