Throwing money in the wind

From tomorrow's NY Times:
But with each passing day, Republicans and some pollsters argue that Mr. Bush's investment in television advertisements — the Bush campaign puts the figure at $40 million, though Democrats say it is considerably more — has not gotten the bang it may have hoped for.
This raises the possibility that Kerry may well come very close to financial parity with Bush by May, heading into the pre-convention period on essentially a level playing field. Democratic 527's would put Kerry ahead of Bush financially in that case, but if Moveon and the Media Fund and others are slapped with new limitations on advertising during the Presidential campaign it may be less serious than some Democrats have feared. The Kerry campaign is currently spending far less on TV advertising than Bush. Estimates put the Kerry TV ad spending at around $8 million since the general election campaign began in earnest.
