Prediction

Despite the best efforts of Democrats, as long as we have a private insurance industry in this country, we'll have uninsured. Certainly a Hillary or Edwards style plan that requires health insurance, like auto insurance and provides some lost cost alternatives will help but people should understand that these solutions will only ever amount to a band-aid over the fundamental dysfunction of a system built on private insurance companies.

I suppose the best we can hope for is over time more and more take advantage of an expanded medicare and federal health care system and private insurers - with their high deductibles and limited coverage get squeezed out. Only time will tell...

I completely agree, Eric. Band-aid (and, frankly, gutless) solutions all. The system is broken. Someone needs to have the courage to actually propose a way to fix it.
