The Petraeus/Crocker testimony has been actually rather downbeat. Yes Petraeus claimed some gains, but kept repeating that they had essentially returned the country to June 2006 and that it will be another year before he sees a return to pre-surge troop levels and that beyond that he can't say. The clear implication is that it will be years before we can even contemplate being out of Iraq.

Is this what Democratic congressman elected in 2006 on a platform of ending the war are prepared to now support?
