While it appears a majority of the American public would agree with Reid's assertion that "the war is lost" the only logical conclusion one could draw from his comments is that the Democrats intend to hold the line on setting a withdrawal date.

I'm not sure agreeing to an "advisory date" instead of a firm one in a bill the president is still likely to veto is the way to go. Let him veto the original language, calling for a firm withdrawal date before trying to find compromise language.
