Had NECN on this morning in the kitchen. In the twenty or so minutes it took to pack lunch and unload the dishwasher I was treated to two anti-Gabrieli ads talking about how he was planning to personally profit from stem cell investments or something. I was thinking to myself, Patrick? Reilly? Wow, negative. Turns out, it was paid for by the Kerry Healey campaign.
Could she be trying to influence the primary? Does the Healey internal polling suggest Gabrieli would be her most potent foe? Do they just figure that they can tar Patrick with that stalest of campaign memes, "tax-'n'-spend-librul? Seems like a big waste of money to be attacking before the candidate is even chosen, though god knows Healey has the money to waste. Especially as Patrick is the one who has been leading in the polls.
As a sidenote, not that I watch a lot of local tv, but the plan to keep personal attack ads to a bare (and reasonably polite) minimum seems to be working. With a week to go to the primary, the mud has not been flying - between democrats, anyway. Which made this morning's Healey ad all the more jarring.
I'm no tactician, but I have to say I'm enjoying the relative quiet.
[UPDATE]: According to the Globe, it's just me. Evidently Gabrieli has been airing attack ads against Patrick, which I either haven't seen, or have managed to successfully tune out.
