By all accounts, Chuck Shumer has done extremely well in his new job as head of the DSCC. He's raised boatloads of money and recruited some very viable Democratic Senate candidates for the election in 2006. Is it necessary to criticize fellow Democrats for things like, "wanting to be close to political donors?"
He's the chief fundraiser for the DSCC afterall. We NEED him raising money. You might not think it's ethical that he sits on the Finance Committee and raises money for a campaign committee, but if we're going to say that's unethical, than practically the whole way our democracy functions could be considered unethical considering the types of things nearly every politician has to do if they ever hope to win elections.
Chuck may not be your favorite, but he's a hard working guy, he's on our side, and by all accounts he's done just about as good a job as he could be expected to do to prepare for the Senate races in '06.
Lieberman I can understand, but Chuck Shumer?? Matt Stoller, Atrios, you guys must be out of your fucking minds, and if you think there's even a chance that Shumer, who is wildly popular in New York State, will get a significant primary challenge anytime soon, then you don't know the first thing about politics. If you're going to waste money, go waste it on another Dean, don't mess with Chuck.
