I agree with Chris and Atrios - this shit has got to stop. Democrats have a 14 point lead in a generic House ballot contest in the most recent Gallup and also wide leads in several other generic ballot contests. While this may be too broad a measure for some, if you look at the individual races happening right now, particularly the special election/primary ones (Cueller vs. Rodriguez in Texas and the election to replace Duke "No Bribe is Too Big" Cunningham) Democrats (Cueller is a Republican in sheep's clothing) are running well and could possibly win both races, or in the Texas case force a runoff.
Yesterday, Bill Thomas retired. Thomas is a senior member of Congress and is head of the powerful Ways and Means Committee. His retirement and others should be viewed as a sign of weakness for the GOP and are giving the Democrats something that was unthinkable only a few months ago - a 50/50 shot of re-taking the House.
Point being: stories like this and this should be ignored.
