One good thing

about the New York Times firewall is that Maureen Dowd's continued slide into irrelevance now takes place behind semi-closed doors.

I'm heartily sick of smartassed columnists - where are the people who can write with passion? Now that Oliphant's retired there's - um - Bob Herbert, E.J. Dionne, and Jim Carroll. Anyone else worth reading?
