Nice try, assholes.

Apparently the RNC would like to hold the 2008 Republican Convention in Boston.
The Republican National Committee asked Boston yesterday to consider hosting the party's convention in 2008, but Mayor Thomas M. Menino, sounding as if he had just finished picking confetti out of his hair from the 2004 Democratic National Convention, dismissed the idea...

...Laughing, he added, ''It surprises me that we're even a city under consideration. In Boston, the Republican is one of the protected breeds."
Interesting strategy. Fortunately, Menino is a democrat, so it appears we'll be spared that particular humiliation. New York wasn't so lucky.

[UPDATE]:
Turns out they asked Chicago too. According to Rachel Maddow this morning, the answer was thanks, but no thanks.
San Diego:
won't submit bids to host the 2008 Republican or Democratic national conventions, Mayor Jerry Sanders said today.

In a statement issued by the mayor's office, Sanders said the "city has other important priorities right now to focus on."

Kinda getting the feeling they're not the most popular kids on the block right now.
