Not a plan

History suggests that Bush will get some sort of bounce regardless thanks to the inevitably fawning media coverage. The real question will be how long any such bounce will last, and whether congressional GOPers will get any benefits from said theoretical bounce.
Iraq won't do Bush any favors (especially given the coverage of Woodruff's condition), the prescription drug debacle is already raising ire with the elderly (people who actually vote), and we've got a whole spate of investigations and trials on tap which will further highlight the Republican culture of corruption and Bush's belief that he is an infallible monarch.
Ok, look...hoping/praying that a negative news environment will help Democrats wrest control of Congress this year is pointless. Bush got elected last year among some of the most relentlessly negative news coverage of his tenure. Sure, lots of us complained about the pundits' baffoonery over the last few years and their pumping up of the administration. But, Democrats need a plan to win, we can't just count on bad news to drive down Bush's numbers. Despite three successive losses in 2000, 2002 and 2004, some still seem hopeful when bad news happens as if that translates into Democratic success.
