Last I heard, Army soldiers were having trouble getting health care, decent armor, and their families needed food stamps to survive. I also heard that congress was just asked for an extra $80 billion plus to spend on the war.
Add that to the reported $18 million worth of equipment they can't account for, lost somewhere in Iraq.
So you can imagine my surprise when I heard yesterday's news that the Army's got an extra $72.2 million to hand out as bonuses to KBR. $72.2 million. Cool.
A cynic might say Halliburton is doing pretty well for itself in this war. Not so much the rest of us. And particularly the people fighting it.
