Goddamnit. Freddy Ferrer's recent comments on the Diallo case may have been wrong, opportunistic, whatever, but he is quite clearly the only candidate with a chance at beating Bloomberg. The whole controversy has simply weakened city Democrats just as issues of race weakened them in 2001.
Freddy clearly mangled an effort at reaching some kind of reconciliation with the police. But should comments like these really come to define a race when the Diallo shooting took place years ago and the officers involved were all acquitted? It's one of the things I hate about politics that the "I voted for it before I voted against it" moments echoed throughout the media can define a race that really should be about other more important issues. If Freddy' critics think they are helping the city by debating, once again, the Diallo shooting, than I hope they are comfortable with four more year of Mike.
