Expectations game

Ken Mehlman must laugh his pointy little head off when he reads post like this. Robert Novak is a cog in the right-wing propaganda machine, a de facto RNC operative, and this is a classic example of the Bushistas setting the bar low way in advance of an election. The chance that Democrats will take back the House in 2006 is remote but the Republicans know that they may well lose some seats. So they tell Novak, in effect, that anything short of a Democratic takeover of the House is a victory for them.

If we Democrats had our own collection of left-wing hack journalists maybe Dean could leak a memo suggesting we were simply hoping to win back a couple House seats and hold the current spread in the Senate in the face of a dominant GOP majority.

Unfortunately, I can't think of one liberal journalist, who straddles the MSM like Novak, who would be a willing participant.
