Democracy in the Middle East

After $200 billion and 1,500 American lives I'd be happy to know that we'd at least done our small part to help bring democratic reform to the Middle East. Problem is, elections in the Palestinian territories and events in Lebanon don't really seem to have anything to do with the recent voting in Iraq. About the only thing that seems to have been influenced by the Iraq vote is the support for Shiite candidates in the ongoing Saudi municipal elections and the strange machinations of Mubarak in Egypt.

It's sad to think that all this would be wonderful if we weren't, in effect, training a new generation of terrorists in Iraq.
