Today in the Senate

After listening to nearly all the Senate floor speeches about Condi so far today, my primary observation is that there is no communication going on between the pros and the cons.

Every repug who has spoken so far has mentioned either/or Rice's piano playing, her ice skating, and her young age when she graduated from college.

Meanwhile, the dems are up there listing all the lies she told the American public while National Security Advisor. And commenting on her seeming inability to express a thought that contradicts the Shrub.

It is inexpressibly condescending to mention her non-government skills, exemplary as they may be, as qualifications for the office of Secretary of State. What I hear as the repug message is: she's smart, she's cultured, and especially so for a person of her background. How dare you object to her? It's personalization, and it's just an extension of Condi's false umbrage at Barbara Boxer last week: How dare you impugn my integrity?

Well, a lot of dems, a number of them genuine moderates, are impugning all over the place today, with great justification. She is undeniably intelligent, cultured, and highly educated.

What she is not is either honest or credible.

[UPDATE]: Cornyn is the worst of the worst. If I hear one more apologist say the words "Saddam had the intent to acquire..." (you know the rest) I may lose it completely.
