Rumsfeld is doing "a very fine job"

Well, that's that for now, then.
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) defended embattled Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Monday, saying the Pentagon (news - web sites) chief was doing "a very fine job."

"I know Secretary Rumsfeld's heart ... He's a good, decent man. He's a caring fellow," Bush told a news conference in response to questions about Rumsfeld's since-abandoned use of a mechanical device to sign letters of condolence to military families.
The radio alarm was was set this morning to Boston right wing talk radio, and from the degree and intensity of the Rumsfeld-bashing taking place, for a few minutes I thought I was listening to AirAmerica.

I wonder:

1. The mighty wurlitzer, recently engaged in saving Christmas from the secular humanists, has turned its attention to Donald Rumsfeld. Why? As long as the focus is on Rummy it's off the Shrub?

2. Isn't this a lot like the impeachment issue? I would dearly love to see * impeached if it weren't for the Cheney/Hastert line of succession. Who's Rummy's successor?

3. What's the backstory on the sudden wurlitzer uproar, as Paul Glastris just asked on AirAmerica?
