One month later

A few musings one month post election.

● I still believe Kerry had more support than *. You can call me delusional; I don't really care. I am in great company: Stephanie Miller, Keith Olbermann, Jesse Jackson, and as of yesterday, just maybe the Kerry campaign as well.

● I also believe that job one for 2008 is the media. Whatever we have to do, there must be a loud, reliable megaphone for the Democratic viewpoint. Air America radio is a good start, but we need more. I've heard suggestions that Soros buy MSNBC. Perhaps the growing success of AAR will reassure media outlets that there is a market for the liberal point of view, though with the election results as close as they were, why are they ignoring half the population? Do Democrats not buy things? The Boston-area AAR outlet is part of ClearChannel, for god's sake. I'm convinced that the major reason * got the number of votes he did is because their side was louder, and it often seems these days like louder comes across to the less-obsessed as more self-assured. We need a way to get the truth out there.

[UPDATE] Hey, welcome aboard, Brian C. Mooney and the Boston Globe!
Long waits in Ohio and elsewhere resulted from the system being overwhelmed by a high turnout, said Doug Chapin, director of the nonpartisan electionline.org, which monitors reform efforts...

...Whatever the outcome of the recounts and the official inquiries by federal agencies, the impetus for improve voting systems will not fade, he said.

''This is not a fringe issue, because a sizable group is interested in pursuing this as a policy issue going forward," Chapin said. ''There's now a critical mass of people involved who want to address the problems that occurred in 2004. This issue is not going to go away."
