I'll admit it; the election flattened me. It's taken two weeks to regain a semblance of emotional stability that is still being battered daily by the flood of bad news that so far characterizes Bush II. So here's how I'm coping, and I'd be interested to hear what you're up to.
1. Cable news blackout. In our house the steady news diet of the pre-election period has given way to Keith Olbermann, Air America radio, and the Daily Show. No talking heads.
2. Escapist fare. Last night my daughter and I watched "Annie". Nothing like a little depression-era musical to lift your spirits.
3. Non-escapist fare. We went to see Bread & Puppet Saturday. They'll be in New York through much of December. The sixties live.
4. Outdoor exercise. Yeah, well, it really does help. Even if the bad news is still waiting for you when you get home.
5. Blog moderation. The chatter really can drive you nuts, and the election fraud issue occupies a shadowy grey area where fringe theories mix with facts in an unwholesome way.
6. Don't forget to laugh. I highly recommend Get Fuzzy. Thanks to my lovely daughter, who reminded to look at this morning's strip. And it looks like this week's should be really fun. In fact, you can subscribe and have them delivered to your inbox every day. For those who prefer the bitter laugh, look here. And give the Daily Show a chance. They're human too - last week's shows were flat as a pancake. Last night's was funny again. They'll get there. And we will too.
