Alert Media

Dan Froomkin is writing a must-see daily White House Briefing column for the Washington Post online. Froomkin is also deputy editor of the new Nieman Watchdog Project (subtitled Questions the Press Should Ask), a very well-written media watchdog site which has at least partially stepped into the enormous breach left by the departure of the late, much-lamented Media Whores Online.

In today's column Froomkin notes the following comment in reference to yesterday's Bush announcement about the restructuring of troop assignments around the world:
Dana Bash reported on CNN: "This is a major policy announcement from the sitting commander-in-chief. But this event was paid for not by the White House or the taxpayers but the president's reelection campaign. And it came at the end of a very intensely political speech by the president."
It has been noted (and apologies for not remembering who first noticed this) that the contrast between John Kerry's Senate website and George Bush's White House website is stark. Kerry's website makes no mention of campaign appearances or speeches; the White House site is full of such mentions.

White House Briefing is a daily must-read. Froomkin is doing the country a great service, separating the truth from White House spin.

Update: The Rude Pundit was the source of the above website comparison. A profane but insightful blog.
