Woodward book hits home

Woodward's interview tonight on 60 Minutes revealed stunning new information on Saudi promises to lower the price of oil to ensure Bush's reelection and on the misappropriation of some $700 million dollars Congress had set aside for the war in Afghanistan.

I'll offer more on this later, but my feeling is that the Woodward book could likely lead to some kind of Congressional investigation. Secretary of State Colin Powell's warnings about going into Iraq will likely be featured by Kerry as evidence of his claim that "the way we went to war was a mistake."

On a final note, and one that we will surely examine further in the days to come, here is this Maureen Dowd from today's NY Times:
Just as the Democratic president ducked behind the parsed line, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," so the Republican president ducked behind the parsed line, "I have no war plans on my desk."
There's no question that if we had Democratic control of the legislative branch there would be calls for impeachment.
