While I watching the Rumsfeld/Myers briefing today, I couldn't help thinking that the situation in Iraq was a lot worse than they made it sound. Rumsfeld said repeatedly, that they were dealing with anywhere between 1,000-6,000 Shiite and Bathist extremists. Well, now the
NY Times is reporting that there is a marked contradiction between their appraisal of the situation and what U.S. intelligence officials are calling "a broad-based Shiite uprising that goes well beyond supporters of one militant Islamic cleric."
